About

I live in rural Scotland and since 2020 I have been studying the Bible in order to understand Jesus, who he is and what he taught. I produce a podcast and videos that help make the biblical stories relevant to people who don't have a church background, or those who want a deeper understanding of how to have a relationship with God.

  2. I would say after watching you one time that you have some bible knowledge.
Why though would you say that the bible can be an idol?

    1. Just like the Pharisees, we can know a lot "about" God, without knowing Him personally. The scripture I am referencing is John 5:39-40 where Jesus says: "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life." Theology and doctrines can become an idol of our intellect when we become hearers (and teachers) of the Word but not doers. Jesus said if we abide in His word we are truly His disciples, but we can make our own knowledge about the scriptures another barrier to truly knowing Him personally. I hope that helps.

    3. I have a good example for you: The Philistines did not know God but they called him elohay yisrael (God of Israel: 1 Samuel 5:8). In verse 7, they noted their god Dagon (elohay-nu: god-our) with the same word they used for the Hebrew God of Israel, but there is a difference between a god and God. There is also a difference between having a religion and knowing God personally. Even Samuel at one time did not know (I Samuel 3:7) the Lord (Jehovah). If you learn to know the Lord, you can understand Exodus 3:14 and Genesis 19:24-27. https://hesedken.com/martin_luther_warning.html

  3. I came to Christ near the end of 2020 as well. I was lost in new age deception, trying many things but just feeling more and more numb. The Lord came to me while I was in a book store, wearing a mask, looking for anything to easy my dis-ease. Long story short, the vail was lifted and I saw evil everywhere and especially in me. In his mercy, Jesus also "struck me" with "it's all real - God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit". I didn't know what that meant but since then I've read the Bible several times, continue to study it, pray continually, got baptized, found a pretty good church, struggle a bunch but am assured that I am an unworthy sinner that was washed in the blood of Christ. I love your work and your humility. I'm amazed at how deep your understanding is since 2020 but am so grateful for it. You point to Christ's finished work and the reality of our struggle and I appreciate that. Thanks for your work and may God bless you and your family!
