Abide In Me - John 15:4
I am sharing my thoughts about my journey back to God, which includes stories of how I ended up living a simple life in rural Scotland.
I have walked down many spiritual paths and used to call myself "spiritual but not religious" but over the course of 10 years I have been gently prompted to firstly learn about Christianity, then read the Bible for myself and during the 2020 lockdown period immerse myself in the teachings of Christ and also the theology and doctrines from all denominations.
After four years of intensive study, I began producing videos and a podcast called 'Abide In Me', which was Jesus's instruction to his disciples before he left them. He told them that without abiding in him they could do nothing and while we are able to achieve things on our own, the truth is that they will be shadows of what we can do with his help. This includes, not just our creative pursuits or career goals, but also who are to become. He wants us to be created anew in his image and this transformation can only happen by him and through him.
I know through experience that other spiritual paths do not lead you back to God, in fact modern spiritual practices are too self-focussed, leading many into a downward spiral of depression, delusion and apathy. We need to look outside of ourselves for answers, meaning and purpose. Jesus taught that he was "The Way, The Truth and The Life." for a reason.
But I also understand how enticing modern spirituality is, especially for women. We can relive our teenage years pulling tarot cards, becoming reiki healers, working with crystals, casting spells or cultivating a spiritual ego that leads us to think we are more enlightened than others. But rather than giving us power, these practices eventually drain our energy, dim our light and darken our minds. If you are prepared to give up these things and ask Jesus for help, he will heal you with his love and transform you with his Spirit.

I hope the blog, podcast and videos, will help people to love the Bible and come to appreciate the deep wisdom and truth within it. I also hope that I can teach people about Jesus, so they will be more open to forming a relationship with Him.

ReplyDeleteI listend to your video, "Why Don't You Fit into Institutional Churches?" I put it in my website page: https://hesedken.com/deacon_requirement.html
DeleteThank you
DeleteI would say after watching you one time that you have some bible knowledge.
ReplyDeleteWhy though would you say that the bible can be an idol?
Just like the Pharisees, we can know a lot "about" God, without knowing Him personally. The scripture I am referencing is John 5:39-40 where Jesus says: "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life." Theology and doctrines can become an idol of our intellect when we become hearers (and teachers) of the Word but not doers. Jesus said if we abide in His word we are truly His disciples, but we can make our own knowledge about the scriptures another barrier to truly knowing Him personally. I hope that helps.
DeleteGreat explanation ! I was wondering the same question 🙋🏼♀️
DeleteI have a good example for you: The Philistines did not know God but they called him elohay yisrael (God of Israel: 1 Samuel 5:8). In verse 7, they noted their god Dagon (elohay-nu: god-our) with the same word they used for the Hebrew God of Israel, but there is a difference between a god and God. There is also a difference between having a religion and knowing God personally. Even Samuel at one time did not know (I Samuel 3:7) the Lord (Jehovah). If you learn to know the Lord, you can understand Exodus 3:14 and Genesis 19:24-27. https://hesedken.com/martin_luther_warning.html
DeleteI came to Christ near the end of 2020 as well. I was lost in new age deception, trying many things but just feeling more and more numb. The Lord came to me while I was in a book store, wearing a mask, looking for anything to easy my dis-ease. Long story short, the vail was lifted and I saw evil everywhere and especially in me. In his mercy, Jesus also "struck me" with "it's all real - God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit". I didn't know what that meant but since then I've read the Bible several times, continue to study it, pray continually, got baptized, found a pretty good church, struggle a bunch but am assured that I am an unworthy sinner that was washed in the blood of Christ. I love your work and your humility. I'm amazed at how deep your understanding is since 2020 but am so grateful for it. You point to Christ's finished work and the reality of our struggle and I appreciate that. Thanks for your work and may God bless you and your family!
ReplyDeleteGod bless you for your kind words and it's wonderful to hear that the Lord saved you from the new age deception too.
